What Can I Give?
There are many gifts you can offer to support this ministry.
On-line gift by check or credit card
All of our on-line giving is handled by Good Shepherd Bank. This insures that your on-line transaction will be safe and secure. Click here to make a donation on-line.
Gift by Check
A gift by check is the most common and convenient way to give to IDES. If you itemize your tax deductions, your gift is fully deductible∗ up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. Any excess may be carried forward for up to five additional years. Checks should be made payable to IDES.
Gift of appreciated securities
A gift of appreciated securities such as stocks, mutual funds, and bonds can provide attractive benefits. An outright gift of long-term appreciated securities (securities held for more than a year) avoids capital gains taxes and in most cases, the donor obtains a charitable income tax deduction equal to the market value of the securities. For gifts of securities, your gift is fully deductible∗ for up to 30% of your adjusted gross income and, like gifts of cash, may be carried forward for five additional years.
Real Estate gifts to IDES
You can make a gift of commercial or residential real estate to IDES and receive substantial financial benefits. In some cases you may want to give the property outright to support the purposes of IDES and qualify for a charitable income tax deduction based on the appraised value of the property. In other cases you may use a home or land you no longer want or need to fund a life income gift. You can also arrange to give your home to IDES while retaining the right to live in it for the entirety of your life.
Estate gifts to IDES
Consider making a gift to IDES through a revocable living trust or in your will. You can provide for a specific amount, or a percentage of your total estate. A gift to IDES through your trust or will makes a statement after you are gone about the priorities of your life, and helps to ensure that your gift will continue. IDES has partnered with Financial Planning Ministry (an estate planning ministry of the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ) to offer you estate planning services free of charge. Please contact IDES' Director of Development, Keith Wood, for more information or use our online order form.
Life income gifts to IDES
A donor may make a gift to IDES and receive direct financial benefits. The benefits include an income for life for the donor and/or the donor's spouse and a charitable income tax deduction∗, all while exercising good stewardship over your assets. IDES offers several options including the charitable gift annuity and the deferred gift annuity.
A Charitable Gift Annuity
Charitable gift annuities are a solid investment in the future of IDES and provide a guaranteed life income. A gift annuity is a contract between the donor and IDES that provides advantages for both. The donor makes a gift to IDES and receives the following benefits:
- Guaranteed fixed payments for life, a portion of which is nontaxable
- Charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the gift
- Reduced capital gains taxes
- Support of a program at IDES, or of the IDES Endowment
- The payout rate on an annuity is based on the age of the donor at the time the gift is made. IDES follows the policies of the American Council on Gift Annuities.
Charitable gift annuities may be funded with cash, securities, or property. Payouts may be made annually, semiannually, or quarterly. The checks are issued and sent directly to the donor or to a specified bank account. Each annuity is backed by the assets of IDES.
A Deferred Gift Annuity
A deferred gift annuity is similar to a charitable gift annuity, except that the payments are deferred to a future date. In addition, the donor obtains a substantial charitable income tax deduction in the year the gift is made.
A donor may defer payments to years when income is needed more, such as in retirement. A deferred gift annuity is an excellent way to make a gift and receive a charitable income tax deduction while providing income for the future.
