The statistics continue to get worse with regard to fatalities from starvation or hunger-related illness. Americans can hardly imagine what it’s like to be truly hungry or malnourished. We are only about 5% of the world’s population, but we consume almost 50% of the world’s food supply. What about the children? The statistics seem even more devastating, in fact according to bread.org, “Over 11 million children younger than 5 die every year, more than half from hunger-related causes.” That equals Twenty one children die every minute with at least ten of them directly responsible to hunger. The rest of them are from hunger related causes. Thanks to IDES something is being done but there is so much more that we could do if we had the resources.
