One in nine people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight, which is approximately 795 million people.
Don't let this statistic become only a number -- these are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters -- human beings alive in our world who do not have access to nutritious food today, and who won't have access to it tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the day after that.
Hunger and malnutrition is a battle too large to fight alone. But together, we can make a difference.
The book of Matthew clearly states “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
It is our duty as Jesus' followers to serve the poor and the suffering. Hunger and malnutrition is one of the largest factors of poverty, but is also one of the the most solvable.
At IDES, we want to help you play a major role in the difference-making, which is why we have established specific programs that allow us to partner together in the fight.
These programs include Harvest of Talents (or H.O.T.), SonFish Banks, and GAP Food-Packing. Whether people are saving up spare change, packing nutritious rice-based meals, or creating items that can be sold at one of our HOT events, we are always working towards one goal: reducing and eliminating hunger and malnutrition.
Your faithful support of these programs feeds thousands of people each month around the world. For example, we have several mission partners in Haiti that take care of orphaned children that currently benefit from these program. The food they receive allows their children to better focus while in class at school, and it provides the proper nutrition that the children need in order to stay healthy.
“We know the LORD IS our provider and he has provided the supporters, volunteers, and staff of IDES to be a part of our mission work in Haiti, by providing the funds monthly to help feed our orphans, school children and others throughout the village," one of our mission partners wrote. "Some of the children that attend our schools are very hungry and often are sick at school because their stomach is hurting from not eating anything at home. With the support of IDES and others we have been able to diminish some of the 'stomach aches' by providing them with something to eat. They are able to better focus on their school assignments and learn about our LORD. They know there is hope through Jesus Christ.”
Feeding the hungry is a vital component in establishing the Kingdom of God. Our mission partners distribute the food without favoritism to both believes and nonbelievers alike. Every meal that someone receives from IDES is accompanied with the love and the message of Jesus Christ. Thanks to your provision, they are given a physical example of God's love for them -- thus, it is God that they thank and glorify for the meal.
Two orphaned teenagers in Haiti recently wrote to IDES, "Our names are Lisemene (13) Sergo (15). We live in St. Martin’s orphanage. We really like the food there. This is what we eat: Rice, Wheat, Corn, Millet, Chicken, Goat, Sardines, Fish, Eggs, Vegetables, Fruits, Milk, Peanut Butter, and Spaghetti. Thank you for the food. May God Bless you in His love."
These children are genuinely grateful for the food that they have been given, and it’s all thanks to your generosity.
From the bottom of our hearts here at IDES, thank you for making these blessings possible for those who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition around the world.
