"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.' " - John 6:35
The fight to help those who are suffering from food-insecurity exists on two battlefields: Hunger and Malnutrition.
One in nine people on our planet will go to bed hungry tonight. Others may have something to eat, but it is not of any nutritional value.
Many of those trying to fall asleep to the rhythms of hunger pangs are children in the world's most needy nations, such as Haiti. For these children in particular, many of whom are elementary students, hunger and malnutrition cause a severe lack of focus and a decreased ability to learn.
"The cost of food has steadily gone up for the past few years," our partner said. "It has also caused for a negative cash flow since our sponsorship program (U.S. individuals paying monthly for a child) did not cover all of the food costs."
IDES' goal in this two-front-fight is to hush those hunger pangs and nourish those souls of the children and families that we are able to reach through the local Church, both here in the US and abroad. After fourteen of our God Always ProvIDES Food-Packing events, with nearly 800 individual volunteers participating over the course of 7 months in 2015, a load of 260,000 servings of nutritious GAP meals had been prepared.
Surrounded by prayer and supported by a foundation of sweat and sacrificed Saturdays, the shipment was successfully delivered by the USAF Denton Program on October 24th, 2015. The meals were used to set-up long-term lunch programs for two orphanages and two schools in Haiti, operated by one of our faithful partnering missions there.
"The teachers and principals were so thankful as they can see a marked difference in the alertness and performance of the children in class," reported the receiving partner mission.
However, the benefit of these meals was more than physical or academic: it was spiritual.
"It provides a platform for telling the story of the Bread of Life. The teachers and orphanage administrators are always consistent in giving thanks for the food before it is eaten. We will sit and watch a full school wait until everyone is served so that the prayer of Thanksgiving can be said."
It is due to YOU, our generous donors and loving volunteers, that IDES can make an impact for the Kingdom of God, by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ while meeting physical needs.
"After church services and as part of VBS or Bible Study programs, we’ve [also] been able to distribute bags to the church members. The church members see this as a great blessing from the church and ultimately, God gets the glory for this provision of food."
