The little girls and boys walked up eagerly to our mission partner, shivering in their barely-thick-enough clothing for the cooler temperatures of winter in India.
Due to the vicious inequality of the caste system, these precious children and their families are trapped in the grips of poverty with little help or notice from their surrounding communities. This leads to nearly constant food insecurity, and a severe lack of resources -- many of them living in little more than mud-and-garbage huts. Thanks to your love, they recently received food and blankets from IDES in the name of Jesus.
Each of the children's mothers smiled at our partner, tears welling up in their eyes in gratitude as a clean, warm blanket and a package of food was handed to them.
"If not for these blankets, villagers would have had to go through more terrible, sleepless nights," our partner in India said. "These photos to show everyone the blessed time we had sharing these blankets with our brothers and sisters in need. We also shared the Gospel with the local community, getting to know people as they stepped forwards one by one to receive the blankets and food."
These families have been cast aside by society, deemed unworthy of love and provision. They do not have the same rights and resources as those of a higher caste. By showing up during their time of need and providing basic necessities, you are representing to them that God deems them worthy and loved.
Kavita, pictured right, was one of many women who received these blankets and food. She has two children. Many nights for her family were sleepless due to the pain of the cold -- but now, no more. Thanks to you, Kavita has a lasting hope not only in the caring warmth and sustenance that these gifts provide, but also in the truth of God's love for her and her family.
"We both had tears in our eyes. When a child came up to receive a blanket, I saw a smile on his/her sweet little face, and I couldn't help my tears of joy because I knew that I was there at that very moment to relieve this sweet child of suffering," our partner said. "Likewise, when I physically handed over the blanket to them, and when their mother shared those same tears of joy in the form of gratitude, they were knowing that God is still watching over them."
In the face of the very real threat of exposure and/or malnourishment, your love gave these families hope in the name of Jesus.
"The tears brought about a bittersweet feeling. It’s sad that there was no one to help them until now, and this makes my heart ache. However, it brings me comfort to know that I had the privilege to be there for them—and so I also cry with joy," our partner reported. "As I get to know them and be a hero in their eyes, I thank God for allowing me to carry out His work. When they grow up, perhaps they will remember our kindness. Maybe they will perpetuate that same kindness too. That’s the hope—that everyone we touch for Christ will replicate that same transformation for thousands more.”
We praise God for your generous partnership in making this hope possible in this village and thousands more around the world. You are the foundation of IDES. Although this is a beautiful example of a successful project, there is still more work to be done for those who are suffering.
"Upon distributing the last set of blankets for the last time for this year’s season, we were all a little bit excited for the upcoming summer and looking forward to coming up with plans and ideas of serving more people," our partner in India said. "We want to thank everyone once again for the help that supporters have given as we continue the work of the Lord."
