WORKING IN EL SALVADOR

Jessie has lived in El Salvador since 2023, working as a primary care provider, health clinic administrator, and co-lead facilitator of a community girls club.

About this ministry:

Several years after first hearing the call to missions, I accepted a position to move to El Salvador to begin my ministry as a field worker. I have lived in El Salvador since 2023, working as a primary care provider, health clinic administrator, and co-lead facilitator of a community girls club.

I worked as a physician assistant in internal medicine and pediatrics for nearly five years in the US before moving to El Salvador. With a degree in Spanish as well as a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies prior to becoming a PA-C, I pray that that the Lord may continue to use the many blessings He has given me to serve others in El Salvador.

As a physician assistant (PA-C), I primarily work with our medical ministry in a general practice community clinic in San Marcelino (Costa del Sol), El Salvador. We seek to minister to the health needs of community members through preventive and curative medicine, serving our brothers and sisters in the area through the overflow and abundance of love of Christ Jesus. We work with children and adults, from our tiniest newborn patients to our eldest patients at 97 years old! We also provide community health education, and work on development projects in conjunction with our IDES teammates in the coast and other communities.

Vision:

  • Our vision focuses on bringing the Gospel to underserved communities in El Salvador through holistic development and ministry, integrating the physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and social needs of the individuals and families which we serve. In El Salvador, 1 in 3 people are currently living under the poverty line.

  • My current projects include Brave Hearts Girls Club, with the goal of supporting a generation of young women (ages 4 – 16) in Ciudad Delgado through weekly club meetings centered on deepening our relationship with the Lord, learning applicable skills for future careers, homework tutoring, community development, and strengthening our friendships.

  • We are working alongside a local church to open a new community medical clinic to increase access to primary medical care, aiming to create a sustainable initiative that empowers the local community and builds a foundation to expand health programs and health education so families can be active participants in advocating for their own health needs. Currently, more than 35% of the population does not have basic access to a primary care provider.
