September 2024
On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a category 4 hurricane. As it moved inland, it weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, but ended up stalling over the midwest on September 27, dumping huge amounts of rain into the region until it finally dissipated on September 29. In total, the storm is reported to have killed 252 people, and resulted in an estimated $78.8 billion in damages. In particular, Tennessee and North Carolina were left devastated in the wake of the disaster.
UPDATE (December 21, 2026)
December was such a blessing as we were able to hand over the keys to FOUR homes! A couple minor tasks such as final yard work, remain, all but one of the families have moved in.
Currently, IDES is spearheading five new construction projects and one remodel, and we are working with other organizations on a few other projects!
UPDATE (October 9, 2024)
Hurricane Milton struck Florida on the evening of October 9, 2024. Just 2 weeks after Hurricane Helene hit the state, they face more clean up and rebuilding. These back-to-back hurricanes were devastating in several states. Our US Disaster Response team, churches, and volunteers have been on the ground since September. IDES is responding to Helene and Milton in Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina with multiple churches.
